My First Concert
One of the things I've never done in my life is attend a concert. I've attended performances of operas and orchestras, but never a concert proper as given by a famous singer. That all changed last Thursday when I went to see Justin Timberlake perform at Madison Square Garden.
I must say that I had a great time. It was neat to be in the Garden again. The last time I was there I had certified for L1 as a DCI judge and that was back in the year of the last NY Pro Tour. As luck would have it the Pro Tour is returning to New York this year.
It was interesting to see how a lot of people showed up late for the concert, apparently with no interest in the opening act - Good Charlotte. I'm actually a fan of these guys, so it was good to see them. However, I soon realized that unless the people you are going to see are good performers, there's no point in seeing them live - you might as well just listen to your iPod. Sadly, Good Charlotte...not good performers.
Justin, on the other hand, is a great performer. He's really engaging with the audience, was surprisingly genuine in his appreciation of the fans, and of course he's a wicked dancer. I must say, though, that my favorite part of the show was in the middle when Timbaland got his own mini-show. He basically did a review of his work. It started out with a mix to the theme song from the Saw movies. I was in heaven. I love the movies and the theme song and I love Timbaland. Good times. For those of you that feel left out, all is not lost! You can see it all too, because the concernt I went to is the one they taped for HBO. It premieres Labor Day Monday, so check it out. Maybe you'll catch a glimpse of me in the audience!
