Indoor Classic 2007 & Article of the Year

Last weekend my soccer club hosted their annual indoor soccer tournament (Indoor Classic). This year, given that we were making many changes to the format and I am President of the club, I decided the best thing to do was run the event (see me to the left looking all spiffy). This year's tournament was a major event. We had 18 teams from all over the country playing 10-12 minute soccer games from 11am to 11pm. While the teams had some breaks, myself and my VP, as organizers, didn't get a break. In the end, we got a great deal of positive feedback from the teams. Many said it was hands down the most well-organized event they had attended. One of the players from the west coast actually thought the organization was very familiar. He didn't realize until after the fact that it was familiar because he was a gamer that knew me when I ran tournaments for The Company years ago. Small world!

In other news I'm happy to report that a judge article I wrote for WotC on Building a Judge Community won article of the year for the Leadership category. You can see the announcement here. Currently voting is underway to select the overal best article of the year. I'm up against some tough competition here, but regardless of what happens it's great to have won in the Leadership category. Thanks to Paul and the many others that helped make this article so informative!

These excerpts from school exam questions and answers made their way around Sinai recently and some of them are so funny that I just had to share. Come on, you know you've been here:

NY ComicCon 2007

As we all know, last year's NY ComicCon was a logistical nightmare. There were far too many people in attendance to accomodate the three halls of the Javits Center they had rented. This year, the folks at ComicCon rented much more of the Javits center, but it still didn't seem like enough on Saturday. The lines were so long that people who arrived at 8:30 am still couldn't get into the gaming area for a Dreamblade tournament that started at noon. Next year they *really* have to do something to get those gamers inside in time for their tournaments.

Logistics as they were, once again, they didn't affect me since I worked for WotC on Saturday. It was great to wander around the Con without standing in any lines. However, nowadays I'm less into all the comics and toys as I once was. I think it's a combination of overstimulation and having to move ALL of my stuff from my youth into my NYC apartment. Anyway, the event was still lots of fun. There was lots to take in and I got to see Kim and Kyle. Both are doing well at Bandai and SOE (respectively). I wish more of my gaming friends could have been in attendance, but maybe if they keep making NY ComicCon bigger and better each year, I'll start seeing more and more of them as time goes on. Fingers crossed.
