Fall Lineup

A friend of mine is in advertising and thus gets all of the pilot episodes for each non-cable TV station. I've begun the process of watching them and wanted to give everyone a heads up on several of the shows. I know we have months until they air, but keep this in the back of your mind.

First up is hands down the best pilot I've seen so far. It's called Pushing Daisies and excels on nearly every level: casting, cinematography, directing, writing. This is a quirky dark comedy centered around a pie maker who can bring the dead back to life - but there are tradeoffs. You can see the trailer for the pilot on the ABC website now. Definitely catch this show when it airs in the fall. If they maintain the rest of the season like the pilot, it will be a great watch.

Also, quite good is Sam I Am starring Christina Applegate. I love Christina and she really carries this show. The show is an interesting twist on the standard "in a coma for a while and wake up with amnesia" plotline. I worry about their being able to maintain novelty for an entire season (or more), but the pilot is good enough to warrant watching to see where it goes.

In the category of not so good we have Reaper about a kid who becomes Satan's lackey. The pilot had some hilarious scenes, but overall it was quite boring and I have no idea what the target audience is for this. In the category of incredibly bad we have Cavemen. This is a show starring the GEICO Cavemen (from the commercials). The pilot episode was one of the most painful 40 minutes of TV I have ever seen. Why in the name of all that is good would you decide to make a show based on commercial characters that are cavemen? So, I'm giving you all the warning now - stay away from this one!

Sick Again

After Vegas I began a serious exercise regimen. This one is a bit different than the one I did last summer as my goal is now to gain strength and mass. In only two weeks I managed to gain back the 10 lbs that I lost over the course of my two hospital visits this year. So, I was pretty excited about that. However, just as I was about to increase the weight I'm lifting, I got sick. It hit me right after mother's day. I got a really bad headache and awful muscle aches. Monday was the worst, so I took Tuesday off to rest. I also slept late today. Nights have been rough as it's fairly warm out now, but still dry as if it were winter. Ultimately the consensus is that I have the flu. Yes, it's odd to have it in the spring, but it happens. Fortunately, I only have some flu-like symptoms and am getting better with each day. If only my taste buds would get back on track...

Charlotte

Well, I'm back from Vegas. What a blast! It was great to see my friends. Trevor, Scott Goodrich, Justin, Kim, Mark, Bojo and Scott from UDE - they were all at GTS. It was great to not have to work for a change. The weather was gorgeous and I got a nice amount of time in the sun and time in the pool. I also sampled quite a few buffets. I didn't gamble so much since I really didn't have the money to spare, which is a shame, but someday when I have a real job I'll be sure to go back and take people's money at the 1-2 Poker tables (from this trip I know that Paigow poker is *not* for me).

So, now that I'm all settled back into NYC life, what is there to do? Well, take another trip of course! I'm going down to a city and state I've never visited before, Charlotte, NC to visit my friend Trevor. I look forward to seeing where he works and meeting his wife. I'll be traveling with Triple G for this one and it will be good too finally see him after months of declining his free movie Tuesday offers (blasphemy, I know). So, I'll post after I get back from NC, provided I survive the south...I survived Nashville...is NC more red than Nashville?
